We are delighted at the steady development of world-class breweries in Greenville!
Meet Andrew Watts and Don Richardson of Quest Brewing Company, leaders of some of the most innovative flavor pairings in the Upstate.
In fact, in 2016 they won a World Beer Cup Medal for Ponce Cucumber Jalapeño Saison.
Not your jam? Try Issaqueena Mango White, Freya Lavender Rye Saison, YuYum Pecan Porter or Southern Rock Hopera Wet Hop IPA to mention a few.

Don and Andrew met through a mutual friend through sheer chance. Don had been a brewmaster since 1992 in Boulder, CO as well as Boone and Mooresville, NC. He was a distributor in the Upstate when he met Andrew who was looking to open a brewery to honor the loss of his beloved brother. Together they produce 3,500 barrels a year of absolutely delicious beer. Quest is only five years old.
“Lucky for us local laws changed five years ago to include taprooms in breweries,” says Don.
And what a cool, cozy taproom it is! We feel a real sense of community. “We never charge for music and have incredible talent here.”
“We are always open to new collaborations especially with those who support us.” Don is on the board of directors for Project Host and offers a yearly chili cook-off. Other alliances include Lucky Pup Rescue, SORBA (Southern Off-Road Biking Association), One Love Yoga, and even DIY craft gatherings.
The brewery was preparing for a fundraiser for Jeff Chandler, a resident musician, who was hospitalized after an attack at home. The event was well attended and 20% of the proceeds were donated to his recovery. “We are about the business of making beer but we love supporting our community and those who love our brews.” Other musical residencies include Darby Wilcox, Zach Parks, and Charles Hedgepath. Playing that evening were Bad Popes, WPOS, Sound Committee, and The Jeff Chandler Band.
“My favorite beer? That’s like asking for my favorite child. And I have two.” Don is the father of Jonah (23) and Trevor (16). We couldn’t decide either.
But why Quest we asked? Don Replies, “ I wanted to come up with a mindful one-word name. One you would remember. Our quest is for a unique signature local beer.” Dictionary says it’s a search for infinite happiness.
Either way, we’re in.
