Mr. Oliver Earle
Meet Mr. Oliver Earle, a South Carolina Certified urban farmer.
Exclusive Photography: FishEye Studios, Greenville, SC.
Mr. Earle’s garden is located on Sullivan Street, at the West End of downtown Greenville. Depending on the season, he grows a variety of produce and plants that are for sale at the Easley Farmer’s Market.
Seeds are getting harder to find and purchase. Fortunately there are seed exchanges such as Southern Exposure Seed Exchange or local friends, Park Seed Company in Greenwood.
His trusted guard Chihuahua warns intruders that his garden is not for the neighborhood. It’s his business. And he means business.
With a naughty grin, Mr. Earle slips me a little ‘sorrel’ to sneak into my family’s salad, a bitter lettuce that taste like green apple.
Mr. Earle reminds us that after you harvest lettuce, wash in your refrigerator. Add a little water to the bottom of a cup, it’s better to store your lettuce upright and it will keep it fresh.
This is horsetail. Twist off a section to treat red ant bites. Mr. Earle says it’s even good for snakebites. I’m not too sure, so here’s a link to read more about it.
