O-CHA tea bar is locally owned and run by Mallie Majarais and her husband, Mike. Mike moved to Greenville in 1994 from Toronto, Canada and Mallie is from the Clemson area. In 2004 they were looking at cities to open up a coffee and tea shop. We're thankful they chose Greenville. Now they have two beautiful kids and, of course, this adorable shop.
Mallie has managed coffee shops since college. She felt confident that she could do it on her own. When you spend five minutes with her and see her constant smile and bubbly personality, you realize the O-CHA tea bar is truly an extension of her personality.
O-CHA tea bar is a colorful and vibrant shop. It is extremely comfortable and is filled with natural light. It’s a great place to come with friends, family, or just you and your laptop to work. They offer live music on Friday nights from time to time.
Tea is an art form. This flowering tea starts out as a bud and the hot water starts the blooming process. Each one of these buds takes 30 minutes to make by hand. Pictured is a ginseng tea which helps with preventing high blood pressure as well as naturally boosting your energy level.
Bubble tea is a refreshingly smooth drink that started in Taiwan in the 80’s. It is often mixed or shaken with milk and/or fruit.
Tapioca pearls are commonly associated with bubble tea, but surprisingly enough that's not how it got it's name. When you shake the tea there is a bubbly foam that forms at the top, ergo, "Bubble Tea." Makes sense.
This machine seals the lid to the top of the tea and is way more fun to watch that it should be.
An alternative to tapioca peals are these flavorful fruit jellies which add great texture and additional flavor to the tea.

Mochi ice cream is made with an outer layer of a soft pounded sticky rice cake (mochi) and is formed around an ice cream filling. It comes in several different flavors and colors. Mochi ice cream was invented by a Japanese-American businesswoman and activist in Honolulu, Hawaii.
This is a powdered matcha tea being prepared by a traditional bamboo wooden brush, called a chasen. Matcha is green tea leaves that have been ground into a fine powder. It has the highest known antioxidants of any food or beverage. Instead of just drinking the infusion of a tea you are ingesting the entire leaf.
You’ve heard of a latte, no doubt. But have you heard of a latTEA? Frothed milk poured over your tea is a great way to warm up your day.
