Since its beginning in 2007, owner and curator Teresa Roche has been busy mentoring and exposing upcoming local artists to the Greenville public, focusing on original works that are affordable as well as beautiful, bringing high end art to every home in the Upstate.
As she creates, Teresa intensely clenches a spare brush between her teeth, a habit she has carried throughout her career as an artist.
Art has always held a place in Kiah Bellows' family. With an architect Dad and an interior designer Mom, it naturally followed that many family friends were artists as well. Even while pursuing swimming in school, Kiah says, “I always found myself in an art class.”
Kiah's inspiration is pulled from her life of travel, which reflects strongly in the abstract landscapes that seem to glow with a natural light and composition that draws the heart and eye.
“I used to put everything into one painting, and now I can take that and carry it through 10.”
Teresa and Kiah’s collaboration of 12 pieces of art are nothing short of stunning, taking over a period of 6 months to complete and 40 hours of painting.
The bond these two women share makes the gallery just that more special, filling it with light.
Teresa rolls some of her art into roman shades for a client, just one of the many incredible personal attentions she brings to customers. "You develop friendships and relationships with customers… they become friends"
Much of Teresa's painting is inspired by life's journeys
Teresa uses the term 'violating the canvas’. Watching her work, you see how beautifully it describes her art. Teresa's use of color and texture breaks the rules magnificently, singing from the paint, creating everything unexpected within its frame.
“It's like exercising: I have to do something, every day.”
Annie Koelle has been with Light & Art for 10 years, growing her style and experimenting with different mediums throughout that time, leading to a variety of pieces that all reflect her generous and playful heart, bringing a happy lightness to her art that rests easily into the home.
“If I stop drawing for any amount of time, I go crazy!”
Jessica Fields makes her own mixtures of oil and wax to transform her canvases into dynamic horizons that are comfortingly lonely; her own unique perspective reaches out and transports you to a place quiet and still.
Jessica's love of art history has even carried her into the classroom, spreading that passion and knowledge to younger artists.
Without art, “there would be a big black hole… What would I do?”
Visiting Art & Light Gallery fills your heart and soul with the emotion and sincerity of what art itself truly is. Teresa has created a home of incredible artists and every inch of the gallery welcomes you to enjoy each piece presented.
